Sometimes I wonder how the stream of consciousness actually works. I mean, stop and consider it. The fact that we refer to it as a “stream” at all means that we acknowledge its ephemerally fleeting nature.
Whether it’s the thoughts, feelings or experiences, they always seem to be passing by us. We may or may not even be aware of it. Heck, we often don’t even realise it as such because we’re either busy re-living the past, worrying about the future that’s to come, or we ruminate over thoughts that keep replaying over and over in our minds. It’s either that or the attention economy that’s collecting taxes by inundating us through the means of the internet or social media. Whether it’s memes, GIFs or clickbaity videos—they often make us ignore the present moment.
Sometimes it’s important to take a break and acknowledge that we don’t live in the past, nor can we guarantee to live in the future that we obsess over. What’s truly for certain is the here and the now. It’s the exact same here and now that you’re spending reading this. The here and now which makes it all the more important to be present and just experience.
Remember, life is short and we have just one. Isn’t living for right now something precious, worth cherishing and keeping close?
